Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Roman Road in Bethnal Green.
Part of a three-roomed flat above a shop on the third floor of the building was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1524 and the fire was under control by 1740. Fire crews from Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch and Homerton fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
