Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a composting centre on Coldharbour Lane in Rainham.
A pile of composting materials was alight. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 0411 and the fire was under control by 0552. Fire crews from Wennington, Barking and Dagenham fire stations attended the scene.
