Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to a fire at a house converted into flats on Queen's Gate in South Kensington.
The roof terrace of a six-storey building was damaged by the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
Station Commander Stephen-Remell Coleman, who was at the scene, said: "Firefighters worked hard to tackle the fire and contain it to the roof terrace.
"Crews cooled one 5kg propane cylinder which was involved in the blaze as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.
"The fire produced a lot of smoke which prompted a number of calls to our Control Room.
"There were some local road closures in place while firefighters dealt with the fire."
The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took seven calls to the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1058 and the fire was under control by 1331. Fire crews from Kensington, Hammersmith, Soho, North Kensington and Battersea fire stations were at the scene.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and involved a pizza oven.
