Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire on Elcot Avenue in Peckham.
Two sheds at the rear of properties on the road were destroyed by the fire and another two sheds on a neighbouring road were also damaged. Six people left surrounding buildings before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
Firefighters also cooled a 50kg propane cylinder to an ambient temperature as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. A 25m cordon was put in place as a precaution.
The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the blaze.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a fault in a fridge.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it. If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.
"Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought."
The Brigade was called at 151 and the fire was under control by 1626. Fire crews from Old Kent Road, Peckham, New Cross and Dockhead fire stations were at the scene.
