Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with flats above on Mare Street in Hackney.
Part of the ground floor shop was damaged by fire. Around 25 people left the flats above the shop before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 0030 and the fire was under control by 0147. Fire crews from Homerton, Bethnal Green and Shoreditch fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
