Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a ground floor flat and garden on Cephas Street in Bethnal Green.
A garden shed and fencing were completely destroyed by fire. A small part of a ground floor and a first floor flat were also damaged in the blaze.
Around 20 people evacuated before the Brigade arrived. No injuries are reported.
The Brigade’s 999 Control centre received 26 calls alerting them to the fire.
Station Commander Steven Vydelingum was at the scene, he said: “Residents are reminded that during the extremely hot weather we’re currently experiencing, to be extra careful when using BBQs and when disposing of smoking materials.
"It’s also a good idea to use your local waste refuse sites if getting rid of garden waste rather than having a bonfire.”
