Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a derelict community hall and church on Woodgrange Road in Forest Gate.
A small part of the ground floor was destroyed by fire. Crews used cutting equipment to cut through the rafters and damp down hot spots in the roof. Fortunately no injuries are reported.
Sub Officer Paul Mudge was at the scene, he said: “Crews worked really hard to ensure the fire was put out quickly and also made sure that hot spots in the roof were extinguished to prevent any further fire damage.”
The Brigade was called at 2016 and the incident was over by 2333. Crews from Leytonstone, Plaistow, Stratford and East Ham fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
