Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a shop with flats above on Bedford Hill in Balham.
Part of the basement roof was damaged by fire. A gas cylinder was also destroyed by the blaze and two further gas cylinders were removed as a precaution as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 0231 and the fire was under control by 0345. Fire crews from Tooting, Clapham, Battersea and Brixton fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as undetermined.
