Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Newgate in Croydon.
A balcony belonging to a flat on the sixth floor of a residential block was destroyed by fire. Around 30 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 2159 and the fire was under control by 2250. Fire crews from Croydon, Woodside, Norbury and West Norwood fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
