Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire in a flat in Connaught Road, Silvertown.
Part of a three roomed flat on the third floor was damaged by fire.
One man left the flat before the arrival of the Brigade and was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service.
The Brigade was called at 0903 and the fire was under control by 1000.
Crews from Plaistow, East Ham, Poplar and Stratford stations attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
