Firefighters have issued a warning about the dangers of fires caused by direct sunlight after a fire at a house on Albion Street in Marble Arch.
Station Officer Chris Haggar, who was at the scene, said: “Firefighters were called to a mid-terraced property after the occupier said he could smell burning.
“On arrival crews located the fire in a timber window, caused by sunlight reflecting off a mirror on a side table.
“Luckily there were no curtains around the window, as this could have accelerated the spread of the fire. There was a small amount of damage and no one was hurt.
“These sorts of fires are not as rare as you would think. They can happen all year around, but as we head into summer and the sun gets stronger, it’s really important that reflective items such as mirrors, crystals and glass ornaments are kept out of direct sunlight.”
The Brigade was called at 0845 and the fire was under control by 0857. Two fire engines from Paddington and Kensington fire stations attended the scene.
