Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a grass fire on Launders Lane in Rainham.
An area of wasteland was alight. There were no reports of any injuries .
New Road was closed between Lambs Lane and East Hall Lane whilst crews worked to make the scene safe.
The Brigade was called at 1530 and the fire was under control by 1958. Fire crews from Barking, Hornchurch, East Ham, Plaistow and Wennington fire stations attended the scene.
