Firefighters have issued a smoking safety reminder after a fire at a block of flats on Stephen's Road in Stratford.
Half of a flat on the fifth floor of an 11-storey block was damaged by the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade's fire investigators believe the blaze was accidental and caused by smoking materials.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Fires caused by smoking materials including cigarettes, roll-ups, cigars and pipes, result in more deaths than any other type of fire.
“Never leave lit cigarettes unattended and make sure you stub them out properly and dispose of them carefully when you have finished smoking.
"If you don’t, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy your home, but also put lives at risk.”
The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 13 calls to the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 2010 and the fire was under control by 2049. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Stratford, Leytonstone, East Ham, Poplar, Leyton and Millwall fire stations were at the scene.
