Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats on Brunswick Road in Sutton.
Two garages on the ground floor were destroyed by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
Four gas cylinders were cooled to an ambient temperature and removed as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1021 and the fire was under control by 1251. Fire crews from Mitcham, Wimbledon, Wallington and Addington fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
