Firefighters are sharing their fire safety advice for smokers after a house fire on Norbury Crescent in Norbury.
A small part of the kitchen in a three-storey mid-terraced house was damaged by the fire. A man and a woman suffering from smoke inhalation were led to safety by firefighters and treated by London Ambulance Service crews.
The fire is being treated as accidental and is believed to have been caused by the unsafe disposal of smoking materials.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “We’d rather you didn’t smoke at all, but if you are a smoker, it’s absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you’ve finished smoking it.
“If you don’t, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy your home, but also cost you your life.”
The Brigade was called at 0445 and the fire was under control by 0527. Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from West Norwood and Tooting fire stations attended the scene.
