Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a house fire on Courtland Avenue in Chingford.
An outside barbecue kitchen area in the rear garden of a semi-detached house was destroyed by fire. Part of the ground floor extension and a small part of the external fascia of an adjacent property were also damaged by the blaze. Five adults left two properties before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
Three gas cylinders were involved in the fire and were removed and cooled to an ambient temperature as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the fire.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters recommend that you have a look at our online Home Fire Safety Checker to make sure there are no hidden hazards in your home.
“The online tool will ask you a series of questions that will help us work out the level of risk in your home, or the home of someone you care for. It only takes a few minutes to get tailored advice to keep yourself and loved ones safe from fire.”
The Brigade was called at 0147 and the fire was under control by 0244. Fire crews from Chingford, Woodford, Enfield and Leytonstone fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been electrical.
