Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters responded to a fire at a recycling centre on Benedict Wharf in Mitcham.
Residents were advised to keep doors and windows shut, whilst we responded, due to the large amount of smoke being produced. Approximately 20 tonnes of rubbish was destroyed by fire. Crews deployed one of the Brigade's 32m ladders as a water tower to fight the fire from height.
The Brigade was first called at 1528, and the fire was under control by 1828. Crews from Mitcham, Sutton, Tooting and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as undetermined.
