Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a shop fire on City Road in Hackney.
Part of a storage area inside the shop, with flats above, was damaged by fire. Around 80 people were evacuated from the building and around 40 people left neighbouring properties. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1350 and the fire was brought under control by 1540. Crews from Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Islington and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical fault.
