Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Park Drive on the Isle of Dogs.

There was a small fire in a paladin bin within the basement, which was extinguished by sprinklers. Firefighters carried out a systematic search and ventilated the building. There were no reports of any injuries.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Automatic Fire Suppression Systems, like sprinklers, alongside other fire safety measures can greatly reduce the impact of fires on people, property, homes and communities.

“Sprinklers are not a luxury - they save lives and also reduce risk to the firefighters who have to tackle the fires.”

The Brigade was called at 2338 and the fire was under control by 0124. Fire crews from Poplar, Millwall, Shadwell and Plaistow fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
