Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a flat on Balmes Road in Haggerston.
Half of a first floor flat in a 13-storey building was damaged by fire. There was heavy smoke logging in the stairwell and firefighters ventilated and carried out a systematic search of the building. The Brigade's 999 Control Officers gave vital fire survival guidance to those inside the building on how to stay safe before firefighters arrived. There have been no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1218 and the fire was under control by 1323. Crews from Shoreditch, Bethnal Green and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
