Sadly, a man has died following a fire at a house on Dericote Street in Hackney.
Part of the first floor of a terraced house was damaged by fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from the first floor via an internal staircase who was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
Another man was rescued from the first floor and he was taken to hospital, where he sadly later died.
The Brigade was called at 2108 and the fire was under control by 2156. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Bethnal Green, Homerton and Shoreditch fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is not believed to have been suspicious.
