Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to a fire on Muirfield Crescent in Millwall.
An industrial compactor and around one ton of rubbish, to the rear of a commercial building, was destroyed by fire. Crews carried out a systematic of the building due to the large amount of smoke produced. Around 50 people evacuated the building before crews arrived.
The Brigade took 20 calls reporting the fire, with the first one received at 1306. Crews had the fire under control by 1420. Firefighters from Shadwell, Dowgate, Whitechapel and Plaistow fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
