Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to a fire in a supermarket on Woodgrange Road in Forest Gate.
Part of the shop roof was damaged by the fire. Around 200 people evacuated from the flats above the supermarket before crews arrived. There are no reports of any injuries.
The first of 11 calls reporting the fire was received by our Control Officers at 1203. The responding crews had the fire under control by 1336. Firefighters from Stratford, Leytonstone and Dagenham fire station attended the scene.
The fire is believed to have been caused by the unsafe disposal of smoking materials.
