Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at an industrial yard on Willoughby Drive in Rainham.
Around five tonnes of mixed waste was alight. A small lorry was also damaged by fire and two outbuildings were destroyed by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
The fire was very visible and produced large amount of smoke. Our 999 Control Officers received 28 calls about the fire.
The Brigade was called at 1048 and the fire was brought under control by 1156. Crews from Hornchurch, Wennington and Barking fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
