Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to a fire at a university building on Strand in Temple.

There was a small fire involving machinery in the workshop of a basement teaching block. Around 200 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade was called at 1417 and the fire was under control by 1552. Fire crews from Dowgate, Brixton, Soho, Chelsea and Old Kent Road fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by hot works being carried out.
