Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Avondale Square in Old Kent Road.
A small part of a three-roomed first floor flat in a three-storey block of flats was damaged by the fire. One man suffering from smoke inhalation was rescued by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus and was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1213 and the fire was under control at 1319. Fire crews from New Cross, Peckham and Brixton fire stations were in attendance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
