Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters tackled a fire at a house on Birkbeck Place in Tulse Hill.

Half of the lower ground floor of a three-storey terraced house was damaged by fire. A woman was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews suffering from smoke inhalation. Two children left the property before firefighters arrived.

The Brigade was called at 1839 and the fire was under control by 2044. Fire engines from West Norwood and Brixton fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electronic item coming into contact with a cooking hob that had been accidentally switched on.
