Firefighters dealt with flooding on Harrow Road in Wembley after a 12-inch water main burst.

Flooding up to a depth of around 20cm affected shops on Harrow Road, which was closed from Sudbury Court Drive to the junction of Watford Road. Crews used sandbags and a polyboom, which acts as a wall, to divert and contain floodwater. There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade was called at 0552 and the incident was over for firefighters by 0917. Two fire engines from Wembley and Northolt fire stations and two operational support units from Ealing and Wandsworth fire stations attended the scene.

What to do if your street is flooding

  • If you can see water building up in the street, call Floodline on 0345 988 1188.
  • Water building up on the street can quickly turn into an emergency. If you feel that you or someone else is in danger, call 999 immediately.
  • In an emergency be ready to turn off your gas, water and electricity supply, if possible.
  • Think about a safe place you could go to if flood water comes into your home. Don’t put yourself in danger to get there. If you live in a basement or ground floor flat, this could include moving to a neighbours flat on a higher level.
  • If possible (and without putting yourself at risk) move belongings to a higher level
  • Flood water can come in through toilets, so be prepared to sandbag your bathroom doors or block your toilet
