Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters tackled a fire at a maisonette above a shop on Vesey Path in Poplar.
Half of the third and fourth floors of a split-level maisonette were damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
Road closures were in place in both directions on East India Dock Road whilst crews worked to make the scene safe.
The Brigade was called at 1541 and the fire was under control by 1627. Fire crews from Poplar, Millwall, Plaistow, Shadwell and Whitechapel fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
