Firefighters tackled a maisonette fire on Johnson Street in Shadwell.

Part of the ducting (ventilation system) between the second floor and the loft space of a residential block was damaged by fire. One man left the building before the Brigade arrived and was assessed on scene.

The Brigade was called at 1308 and the fire was under control by 1426. Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Shadwell, Whitechapel and Walthamstow fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by the failure of a bathroom fan.
