Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a student accommodation block on Tinworth Street in Lambeth.
Part of a fifth-floor communal kitchen was damaged by the fire. Around 80 people left the building before the arrival of the Brigade. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1822 and the fire was under control at 1945. Firefighters from Lambeth, Soho, Clapham and Dowgate fire stations attended the scene.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a fault in an extractor fan.
