Three fire engines and around 20 firefighters responded to reports of a fire at a residential block of flats on Dray Gardens in Brixton.
Part of a two roomed flat on the first floor was damaged by the fire. One man was rescued by firefighters from the first floor using a short extension ladder. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took two calls reporting the fire. The first call was received at 2254 and the fire was under control by 2335. Firefighters from Clapham, Brixton and West Norwood Fire Station attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
