Sprinklers saved a flat on Millbank in Lambeth from being severely damaged by fire.
The fire destroyed a small part of a fourth floor flat in a nine storey building. A sprinkler system activated and helped contain the fire before crews extinguished the blaze.
Thankfully there were no reports of any injuries.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "The numbers of buildings in London with sprinklers systems are still very low and we would like to see this increase. Automatic Fire Suppression Systems, like sprinklers, alongside other fire safety measures can greatly reduce the impact of fires on people, property, homes and communities.
“Sprinklers are not a luxury - they save lives and also reduce risk to the firefighters who have to tackle the fires.”
The Brigade was called at 1811 and the fire was under control by 2000. Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters from Lambeth, Soho and Clapham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire was accidental and is believed to be due to a faulty washer dryer.
