Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Wellington Way in Mile End.
Part of a two-roomed flat on the second floor of a residential block was damaged by fire. Around 10 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. One man was treated on scene after suffering from smoke inhalation.
The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the blaze and used 999Eye to live stream the blaze from a smart phone to screens in the Control Room, allowing for greater visibility of the incident.
When a 999 call is received by the Brigade, the caller may be asked if they would like to provide a live video stream of the scene using their smartphone. The Control Officer will send a text message with a secure, one-time-use link that opens a live stream direct from the phone to the Control Room. 999Eye provides better situational awareness and allows us to offer the best advice based on live footage.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "We recommend that you have a look at our online Home Fire Safety Checker to make sure there are no hidden hazards in your home.
“The online tool will ask you a series of questions that will help us work out the level of risk in your home, or the home of someone you care for. It only takes a few minutes to get tailored advice to keep yourself and loved ones safe from fire.”
The Brigade was called at 2339 and the fire was under control by 0010. Fire crews from Whitechapel, Homerton, Dowgate and Bethnal Green fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
