Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a maisonette fire on Bushey Road in Sutton.

Part of a maisonette on the third floor was destroyed by fire.

Firefighter Oliver Sanders was at the scene, he said: "No smoke alarm sounded in the room where the fire took place. This is a timely reminder to all to ensure you have working smoke alarms throughout your home. Not having working smoke alarms leaves you and your loved ones at risk.”

The Brigade was called at 2215 and the incident was over by 2314. Fire crews from Sutton, Wallington, Wimbledon and New Malden fire stations were in attendance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
