Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled a pub fire on Greenford Road in Sudbury Hill.

The whole of the roof, most of the first floor and part of the ground floor of the pub were destroyed by fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire and a 32 metre turntable ladder was used as a water tower to help put the fire out. Thankfully there are no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 13 calls to the blaze.

Station Commander Gary Deacon, who was at the scene, said: "The fire was producing a large amount of smoke and those in the local area were advised to keep their windows and doors shut until smoke subsided.

"A 25-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution and motorists were advised to avoid the area due to a build up in traffic."

The Brigade was called at 1749 and the fire was under control by 1913. Fire crews from Northolt, Harrow, Southall and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
