A man has sadly died following a flat fire on Gayton Crescent in Hampstead.
Part of a second-floor flat in a converted semi-detached house was damaged by fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from the second floor via an internal staircase. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Two further people were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews after suffering from smoke inhalation.
The Brigade was called at 1147 and the fire was under control by 1249. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from West Hampstead, Euston, Hendon and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
