Firefighters have issued a reminder of the importance of smoke alarms after a fire at a residential block of flats on Bedfont Lane in Feltham.
Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters tackled the fire, which partially damaged a three room flat on the fifth floor. One woman with a baby evacuated the building before the Brigade arrived.
Smoke alarms were present at the property but did not operate. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home.
“Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start except kitchens or bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate.”
The Brigade were called at 0209 and the fire was under control by 0246. Crews from Feltham, Heathrow and Hayes fire stations attended the scene.
The fire is believed to be accidental and believed to have been electrical.
