Fire at electrical substation – Kensington

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at an industrial building housing an electrical substation on Jameson Street in Kensington.  

An industrial air compressor was destroyed by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.  

Station Commander Alec McNally said: “The crews worked diligently alongside engineers to ensure the blaze was extinguished quickly and safely, minimising disruption to the surrounding area. Their co-ordinated efforts ensured a swift response, effectively safeguarding the local community and infrastructure.” 

Station Commander Will Thompson, who was Incident Commander at the scene, added: “The prompt and professional response by all involved was critical in managing the incident effectively. We are grateful for the support from our partners, which was instrumental in our success.” 

The Brigade was called at 1613 and the fire was under control by 1802. Fire crews from Kensington, Brixton and North Kensington fire stations attended the scene.  

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
