Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at a block of flats on Hermitage Street in Paddington.
Half of a flat on the ninth floor of the building was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
Members of the public were asked to avoid the area whilst firefighters worked to fully extinguish the fire.
The Brigade's Control Officers received more than 10 calls about the fire.
The Brigade was called at 2046 and the fire was brought under control by 2143. Crews from Paddington, Kensington, North Kensington and surrounding fire stations attended the scene. A 32 metre turntable ladder was also in use as a water tower to help fight the fire from height.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
