Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a house on Athol Way in Hillingdon.
Most of the ground floor of a three storey end of terrace house was damaged by the fire. One woman was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by an electrical fault in a fridge freezer. Smoke alarms were not present at the property.
Station Officer Simon Hall, who attended the scene, said: “If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it. If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.
“Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought.”
"This incident also shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home.
“Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start except kitchens or bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate.”
The Brigade was called at 2317 and the incident was over for firefighters at 0002. Crews from Hillingdon, Hayes and Southall Fire Stations attended the scene.
