Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with dwellings above on High Road in Leyton.
Most of a three roomed flat on the second floor was damaged by the fire. One child was rescued from the flat by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using an internal staircase and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.
Control Officers took the first of three calls at 1931 and mobilise crews from Leytonstone, Stratford and Homerton fire stations to the scene. The incident was over for firefighters at 2059.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
