Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Chesilton Road in Fulham.

Part of the basement was destroyed by fire. Thankfully no injuries are reported.

Sub Officer Chris Luscombe was at the scene, he said: "The fire was challenging to access due to voids. All the residents evacuated before the Brigade arrived. Fortunately, the property had working smoke alarms, this incident shows the importance of having them fitted throughout a property as they give the earliest possible warning of fire.

"If there were no alarms and this fire had happened in the middle of the night when people are asleep it could have been a very different story.

"You should have working smoke alarms in every room where a fire can start, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen and bathroom. They should be tested regularly."

The Brigade was called at 1917 and the incident was over by 2147. Fire crews from Fulham, Wandsworth, Hammersmith and Kensington fire stations were in attendance.

The cause of the fire was due to an electrical fault in a socket.
