Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a house converted into flats on Braemar Avenue in Willesden.
Part of a three-roomed flat on the first floor was destroyed by fire. One man left the property before the Brigade arrived and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service (LAS). One child also left before the Brigade arrived on scene and was treated for smoke inhalation on scene by the LAS.
Thankfully the property had working smoke alarms which alerted the residents to the fire. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home.
“Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start except kitchens or bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate.”
The Brigade was called at 0914 and the incident was over by 1020. Fire crews from Willesden, Wembley and Park Royal fire stations were in attendance.
The cause of the fire is due to a power tool battery failure.
