Firefighters tackled a fire at a block of flats on Northend Road in Erith.
Part of a communal area on the second floor was damaged by the fire. One person left the building before the arrival of the Brigade. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued six people. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 2042 and the fire was under control by 2132. Firefighters from Erith, Bexley, Plumstead and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
