Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a detached house on Sandy Lane in Cheam.
Part of the first floor and roof were damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
Station Commander Stephen McGhie, who was at the scene, said: "Crews worked extremely hard to quickly contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
"Sandy Lane was closed whilst firefighters made the scene safe, but has now re-opened."
The Brigade was called at 1043 and the fire was under control by 1151. Firefighters from Mitcham, New Malden, Wimbledon and surrounding fire stations attended the scene. Crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
