Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a paper shredding yard on an industrial estate in Erith.
A small part of a paper bale compactor was destroyed by fire. A further two tonnes of paper were moved outside to the road and were extinguished by crews. No injuries are reported.
The Brigade was called at 0927 and the incident was under control by 1030. Fire crews from Erith, Wennington and Plumstead fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is accidental and is believed to have been caused by materials jamming in machinery.
