Assistant Commissioner Patrick Goulbourne has offered his sincere condolences after the tragic death of three children at a house fire in East Ham on Saturday.
He said: “This is a terribly sad incident and the thoughts of all of us at London Fire Brigade are with the family, friends and all those affected at this difficult time.
“Staff will be in the local community over the coming days to offer support and advice where needed.
“The welfare of our staff is very important and all those involved will be offered support from our counselling and trauma service.
“Sadly, one child was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday morning, and a second child died in hospital later that day. A third child died in hospital two days later, on 15 July. One other child and two adults were also taken to hospital.”
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Napier Road in East Ham.
Half of the first floor and ground floor of a terraced house was damaged by the fire.
The Brigade was called at 0827 and the fire was under control by 0909. Crews from East Ham, Barking, Stratford, Ilford and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade’s fire investigators and the Metropolitan Police Service.
