Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled a fire near Silvertown Way in Canning Town.
The fire was located in a construction site consisting of 10 floors, where a ground floor commercial unit was partially damaged by fire. One of the Brigade's 64-metre turntable ladders was deployed to the scene as part of our response, and one person was rescued by firefighters using 13.5 metre ladder. Eight people left the building before the Brigade arrived, seven of whom were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews due to smoke inhalation.
The fire produced a significant amount of smoke. People in the area were advised to keep windows and doors closed as crews responded.
The Brigade received around 32 calls reporting the fire, with the first call taken at 0823. The fire was under control by 0936. Firefighters from Plaistow, Poplar, East Ham and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
