Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled a fire at a takeaway shop with flats above on High Road in Ilford.

Half of the takeaway shop and part of the first floor of the building were damaged by fire. Four people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

One of the Brigade's 64-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as an observation tower.

The Brigade was called at 1627 and the fire was under control by 1919. Fire crews from Ilford, Stratford, Dagenham and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by an electrical fault.
